Emergency Medical Assistance Program, third phase
(EMAP III)
The project supports and strengthens the Palestinian health care system to maintain the health and well-being of Palestinians.
EMAP III includes procurement support and operational support to health NGOs through sub-grants. EMAP III activities are aimed at ensuring sustainable health outcomes and maximizing positive impact on health care practices.
Under an emergency support component, CARE is helping NGOs and Ministry of Health hospitals and clinics during severe emergencies.
West Bank
In terms of procurement, eight hospitals in the West Bank receive pharmaceuticals, disposables and supplies and medical equipment. CARE also provides support and pharmaceuticals, disposables and medical equipment to approximately 25 NGO clinics in the West Bank.
CARE is delivering kidney dialysis machines to 17 Ministry of Health hospitals in the West Bank and three to the Augusta Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem and supporting NGO and Ministry of Health hospitals, and NGO clinics during severe emergencies.
In the grants component, 5 NGOs are receiving grants to help physically disabled children, adults and the elderly. The NGOs are in Eizariyeh, Nablus, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Jenin.
In a second round, 7 NGOs will receive grants to help disabled children, adult and the elderly. These NGOs are in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Duhaisheh Camp, Ramallah, and Jenin. Help is also provided to children with hearing problems and ophthalmic surgery is supported for children and adults.
An additional grant is available for children and old people with severe mental disabilities to cover outreach activities, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy sessions and to raise awareness with families on how to handle disability.
Gaza Strip
The project provides procurement support to the Ministry of Health and 15 NGO clinics and 3 NGO hospitals covering disposables and supplies, medical and non-medical equipment and spare parts. It procures and distributes kidney dialysis medications, supplies and equipment to 4 MOH hospitals in the Gaza Strip (Shifa, Nasser, Al-Aqsa, and Al-Najar). It is also provides kidney dialysis machines to 13 Ministry of Health hospitals.
Grants are provided to two NGOs that are helping deaf children. This also means that approximately 2,800 preschool and kindergarten children can be tested for hearing and those who have problems can be referred for further treatment. Children with hearing problems are then able to receive hearing aids and ear molds. The grants also cover awareness sessions for mothers to improve their knowledge and capabilities in dealing with children with hearing problems. The grants also help improve the administration and financial capacity of the NGOs. This component covers four refugee camps in the middle of Gaza: Deir Al-Balah, Al-Magahazi, Al-Nusairat, and Al-Bureij.
