Empowering Palestinian Women – Transforming Communities
in Gaza (Bena’a)
The project aims to contribute to poverty eradication (improving access to essential services) and to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in Gaza.
Bena’a is building the capacity of grassroots community based organizations to increase the role of women in the social, political and economic life in their communities. Therefore the projects aims to contribute to the achievement of Millennium Development Goal number 3 on gender equity and women’s empowerment. It links efforts to eradicate poverty, promote gender equality and empower women. Bena’a is helping communities to participate in their own development.
The project is:
• Conducting organizational assessments of CBOs and providing them with training and on-going support in financial management, internal governance, proposal development and fundraising;
• Training CBOs in participatory assessments and the development of community action plans that represent the interests of women;
• Providing capacity building in developing and implementing advocacy campaigns and strengthening CSO networks;
• Facilitating coalition building among CBOs and linking grassroots efforts with initiatives at the regional and national level;
• Training CBOs to improve their analytical skills around women’s rights and principles of social and economic development;
• Designing and implementing an awareness campaign intended to promote gender equality and implement activities intended to challenge gender stereotypes and attitudes using various media targeting youth;
• Training journalists and municipal council members in gender and development issues.
Beneficiaries
Ten community based organizations (CBOs), journalists and women municipal council members as well as approximately 2,500 ordinary women.
