Health
Many communities in the West Bank and Gaza do not receive the minimum standards for basic preventative and curative health care. Some of these include antenatal and postnatal care, pharmaceuticals for non-communicable and infectious diseases, as well as general health awareness. The lack of access to health care is mainly due to the Israeli checkpoints, the separation wall, and the proximity to illegal Israeli settlements, creating obstacles for movement for communities across the West Bank and Gaza.
The health program at CARE delivers some of the largest emergency and development projects in the occupied Palestinian territories. The program reaches over 1 million Palestinians with funding from various donors including ECHO, DFID, MOFA Germany and DEC, providing high quality health services to communities without adequate primary health care (with a special focus on women and children). CARE provides life saving equipment, essential pharmaceuticals and drugs, as well as building the local capacity to better cope with health needs. In addition, it utilizes mobile clinics in order to reach vulnerable and distant populations that would otherwise have severely limited access to health care.
