CARE West Bank and Gaza Completes Rehabilitation of Water Well, with Funding from the European Commission’s Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid

On Thursday, 29 June 2006 CARE West Bank and Gaza completed the rehabilitation of a water well in Nazlet Issa village in the Tulkarem area, as part of its emergency program to improve the water situation for Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. Funding for the well was provided by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid, for € 115,000. Rehabilitation was conducted in coordination with the Palestinian Water Authority and the Nazlet Issa Village Council.
The rehabilitation process increased the efficiency and capacity of the water well in Nazlet Issa. Also it led to a decrease in the cost of operating the water well, as an electrical system was installed instead of the diesel engine.
The rehabilitated well will serve the drinking needs of the local Palestinian community and provide water for farming purposes. There will be 2,500 beneficiaries of the rehabilitated water well, in addition to 80 farmers who utilize approximately 500 dunums.
