Gaza Strip NGO Security Office Project (GANSO)

The project is setting up operations at the Gaza office to provide dedicated safety and security services; and credible and reliable safety information, analysis and advice; to NGOs working in the Gaza Strip, to improve their understanding of their working environment and security management practices.

Accordingly, the project has recruited one Security Coordinator and one Information Officer who will gather and disseminate safety information. The Security Coordinator analyzes and provides advice to NGOs through direction of the Project Manager to assist NGOs in understanding and improving their own safety and security arrangements.

GANSO has established a VHF system in Gaza with UNRWA, frequencies and radio call signs have been assigned for all the NGOs, in order to communicate effectively. This two-way communication will provide instant safety/security advisories on security issues throughout the Gaza Strip and allow NGOs to make sound judgements on the basis of available information.

The need for a Short Message Services (SMS) has been identified, and within the communication area, four radio operators will operate a radio room round the clock at GANSO office. Thirty two Palestinian NGOs were identified to receive handheld radios throughout the five governorates: 1 in North Gaza, 2 in Gaza City, 3 in the Middle Area, 4 in Khan Yunis, and 5 in Rafah.

Under the GANSO Project, weekly reports will be prepared, each report including all incident reports that are stored in GANSO database. Moreover, weekly security meetings will be held and reports distributed to the participating NGOs.
