With Funding from Germany,
CARE Provides Emergency Assistance to Hospitals in the Gaza Strip

29 may 2008. CARE West Bank and Gaza will send the first shipment of essential medical supplies to Gaza hospitals on 2nd June 2008, with the financial assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany and CARE Germany. The medical shipment will support seven hospitals in the Gaza Strip: Al-Shifa, Kamal Adwan, Beit Hanoun, Al-Aqsa, Al- Nasser, European Hospital, and Abu Yusef Al-Najjar.

The emergency medical assistance consists of 34 essential pharmaceuticals and 37 disposable items that are currently in shortage in the Gaza Strip. The pharmaceuticals will be mainly for the treatment of cancer, immunosuppressant diseases, chronic diseases and infections. The distribution of these items is expected to be completed by end of June 2008. Approximately 70,000 individuals will benefit from this project.

The German grant will help Gaza hospitals to maintain their health services without a disruption. Currently, the hospitals are offering services at minimum capacity due to the serious shortage in pharmaceuticals and the breakdown of essential medical services
