Journalists are Welcome to See CARE International West Bank and Gaza, is helping farmers in the northern part of the West Bank set-up a market for their agricultural produce. Framers who will market their products are beneficiaries of the Emergency Assistance for Impoverished Households to Improve Food Security in Villages Affected by the Wall, funded by ECHO, the European Union’s Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid. Most of the beneficiaries of this project are women. The market is being set in cooperation with the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committees and the Department of Agriculture in the northern part of the West Bank. Farmers from the area will participate and practice the methods they were taught through the ECHO program for marketing their products and developing their income in a sustainable manner. Because of travel restrictions in the area, farmers in general have no access to outside markets, and the women, being most vulnerable, are therefore subject to the severe ramifications of the harsh economic conditions. With this market, CARE International and ECHO are hoping to link the farmers with marketing organizations. The aim is to empower the farmers, particularly women, and to help them develop a sustainable income. The market will open in Jenin on 28 August, and in Tulkarem on 29 August. For Journalists Wishing to Visit the Markets, Please Contact Othman Abbas, Community Team Leader, Jenin Office of CARE International
