Last week, primary health clinics in 17 villages in the Jenin area received medical supplies through the Emergency Medical Assistance Program (EMAP II), implemented by CARE International West Bank and Gaza, with funding from the United States Agency for International Development and the American people. The aim is to improve the preparedness of clinics ahead of the disengagement, in case closures or curfews are imposed in the Jenin area. Approximately 50,000 -70,000 people in the villages will benefit from the medical supplies. They are mostly farmers suffering from severe economic conditions, and unable to afford travel expenses or access medical assistance in other areas. The distribution of medicine is a great supplement to the efforts of the Palestinian Ministry of Health and area NGOs. Distribution took place in coordination with the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and local and international organizations that are members of the emergency preparedness team in Jenin, who requested the medical assistance in order to help the most poor and marginalized. The villages that received medical supplies are: Arabeh, Jaba', Selet Al Thaher, Barta'a, Ajja, Yabad, Anza, Fahma, Deir Abu De'ef, Faqou'ah, Bazzarya, Sabastia, Deir Sharaf, Beit Imrin, Burqa, Talouza, and Naqoura. |
