French Journalists Visit CARE Projects in the Jenin Area

On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 8- 10 June, CARE West Bank and Gaza hosted a group of French journalists. John Viste, Assistant Country Director, briefed the guests on CARE projects in the West Bank area and spoke about the challenges and accomplishments there. The French journalists traveled to Ramallah where they first visited the Palestinian Water Authority and met Yousef Oweis, Head of the Public Relations and International Relations Unit. They proceeded to the Palestine Hydrology Group and met Dr. Abdul-Rahman Tamimi, Director.

The guests traveled to Jenin where CARE is providing humanitarian assistance and carrying out a number of developmental projects. They visited Ya’bad village in Jenin and spoke to beneficiary families. In Alnazla Alsharqiya village the guests saw the sanitary units in the school, donated by CARE and ECHO, the European Commission’s Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid.

The group proceeded to Nazlat ‘Isa and saw the Wall and how it cuts through the village. In Khirbet Aqaba and Daher al ‘Abed the French journalists visited the families that benefited from the new water wells dug with help from CARE. Also they saw the new water pump station in Ya’bad that will be operational soon. The guests proceeded to At Tarem village and spoke to families receiving help from CARE International.

The French journalists returned to Jerusalem and met Regis Meritan, First Secretary of the European Commission Technical Assistance Office. Mr. Meritan briefed the guests about the humanitarian projects the European Union is funding for the Palestinian people.
