6 October 2005. CARE signed the agreement Emergency Medical Assistance Program III (EMAP III), in order to support and upgrade emergency medical services in the West Bank and Gaza.

The new project, for 10 million dollars, will run for two years until September 2007, with funds from the United States Agency for International Development. This is the third EMAP agreement for CARE West Bank and Gaza with USAID.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health and health institutions will receive medical supplies and equipment, emergency medical care will be upgraded, and medicine will be provided for the treatment of ailments such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Also, training will be offered to staff of the Ministry of Health and health NGOs, and the basic medical services and emergency services will be rehabilitated.

EMAP III will provide assistance to people in 16 governorates of the West Bank and Gaza. They are:

  • The Ministry of Health in the West bank and Gaza, including the central stores and primary health care clinics.
  • Approximately 18 rehabilitative care centers and NGOs providing health care on emergency basis.
  • Approximately 80 selected NGO primary health care clinics, stationary and mobile.

Through its support to the NGOs and the public sector, EMAP III will reach approximately 400,000 Palestinians annually.
