Emergency Humanitarian Assistance in the Gaza Strip, to Im A-Naser Area, in the Aftermath of Sewage Flooding on the Civilian Population

29 March 2007. With funding from the European Commission’s Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid, CARE West Bank and Gaza is providing emergency humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in the Um Al-Nasr area, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. The intervention is in response to sewage flooding that left six Palestinians killed and thousands homeless, and caused significant damage to infrastructure and private property.

Food supplies arrived Saturday to Um Al-Nasr, to help cover the dietary needs of 280 families for one week, and preparations are underway to send fresh drinking water and infant supplies to the affected region in the Gaza Strip. A medical mapping survey for all inhabitants in Um-Al-Nasr will take place, so that severe cases can be transferred to hospitals in the northern part of Gaza. The mapping will be completed in one week.
