CARE Organizes Training and Capacity Building in the Management of Water Resources and Food Security

Jerusalem. 12 May 2008. CARE International has announced that it completed three workshops in the management of water resources and networks.
The first workshop held in CARE’s office in Jenin. 15 engineers, technicians, and water experts attended. They are employees of the water departments in the villages of ‘Ajja, Sanour, Arrabeh, Attara, Seilet Al-Dahr, Birqeen, and Qabatya.
The second workshop was held in the joint services council of Al-Sharawiyyeh in the Tulkarem Governorate, with 20 persons attending from the water teams in Qafeen, Atteel, Baqa Al-Sharqiyeh, Deir Al-Ghusoun, Al-Jaroushiyeh, Allar, Nazlet Issa, Sayda, and Al-Nazleh Al-Wusta.
The third workshop was conducted in the Anabta Municipality, with 19 persons attending from the villages of Beit Leed, Rameen, Burqa, Safareen, and Anabta.
As part of the emergency food security project, CARE has distributed improved sheep and supplies to 130 beneficiary families in Jenin and Toubas Governorates; namely ‘Jaba, Al-Fandakoumiyeh, and Tayaseer. Each family received three sheep and three off springs, feed that will be enough for six months, and the supplies needed for building animal sheds. Moreover, the participating families attended training in food processing and the management of sheep farm, and they will receive technical and veterinary support for the next six months.
Also as part of the food security project, beehives and the necessary tools were distributed to 160 families in the four villages in the Jenin and Toubas Governorates; namely in Sirees, Marqa, Al-Zawyeh, and Aqqaba. Each community received a honey centrifuge, and had participated in training in beehive management. Follow-up with the farmers will continue for the next six months after the distribution.
In the northern and central parts of the Gaza Strip, rabbits and the necessary supplies were distributed in five communities, namely in Deir Al-Balah, Um Al-Nasr, Al-Malalha, Al-Migraha, and Al-Zaitoun. Preparations are underway to distribute rabbits to families in Al-Shoujaiya, Al-Zawaydeh, and Wadi Al-Salqa, to 400 needy families in the 8 communities.
