CARE West Bank and Gaza
CARE West Bank and Gaza (WBG) has been an active participant in relief and development in the West Bank and Gaza since 1948. Throughout the years, CARE's program has evolved from the direct provision of services into a program that meets the humanitarian needs of the civilian population and builds their capacity to sustain their livelihoods. It manages a current annual development and emergency response budget of approximately $US 18 million and has field offices in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, implementing programs for the Palestinian communities in health, agriculture and livelihoods, water and sanitation, civil society strengthening, and emergency relief.
CARE WBG currently serves more than 1.5 million Palestinians in both humanitarian and development assistance programs in all districts, with special emphasis on the most deprived communities in Jenin, Tulkarem, Tubas, Hebron, and Bethlehem districts in the West Bank; and the entire Gaza Strip.
CARE WBG works to ensure that the projects delivered benefit both men and women, particularly those who are poor, vulnerable, marginalized and isolated. It engages Palestinian communities in development processes that enable them to determine their future and realize their rights to live in peace and dignity. It works in partnership with various local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community based organizations (CBOs) to meet the humanitarian needs of the most susceptible Palestinians, advocate for development, humanitarian, and governance priorities of communities, and develop the livelihood capacities and social positions of the most vulnerable communities.
